Colonels stand 4-0

LIBERTY — The undefeated Copiah Academy Colonels rolled overthe Amite School Center Rebels 58-0 Friday night in a laterescheduled football game.
Copiah, coached by Mitch Mitchell, improved to 4-0 on the seasonwhile ASC fell to 0-4.
“We played real well ,” said Mitchell. “Our offensive lineplayed real well.”
The Colonels went up on the Rebels 21-0 in the first quarter.Jake Guess scored on a 25-yard run, David Brunt on a 5-yard plungeand Daniel Sims connected to Wil Ervin on a 20-yard passing play.Richard Henley kicked the PAT, going 6 of 7 on the night.
At halftime, Copiah pushed its lead to 42-0, scoring three TDsin the second quarter. Ben Stevens raced for a 63-yard TD, KyleMyers scored a three-yard touchdown and Brandon Greer ran for a15-yard score.
In the third quarter, Timothy Hallman ran for a 15 yards TD andHenley passed to Bennett Wilson on a busted PAT kick for atwo-point conversion and a 50-0 lead. Copiah also recorded a safetybefore the end of the quarter to push its lead to 52-0.
Fourth-quarter action saw Wilson rush for a 10-yard TD in the58-0 win.
The Colonels picked up 8 first downs and 356 total offensiveyards. Copiah rushed the football 28 times for 353 yards.
Brunt led the Colonels rushing game with seven rushes for 82yards. Guess carried 10 times for 25 yards. Jeb Stevens carriedtwice for 8 yards. Ben Stevens had 63 yards on 1 carry. Mylescollected 14 yards on 4 runs. Following with 3 carries for 36 yardswas Greer. Hallman finished with 29 yards on two runs.
Defensively, Kent Miller led the Copiah defensewith five tackles and a fumble recovery.
Copiah returns home Friday night to entertain District 3-AArival Adams County Christian School (4-0) in a battle of unbeatenteams. Game time is 7 p.m.
