Power co.: 75 percent of service restored

The employees and more than 400 crewmen continue to worklong-hours to restore electric service to the members of MagnoliaElectric Power Association. Cooperatives and contract crews fromaround the nation have come to repair lines and set poles, whichwere destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
Magnolia serves more than 28,000 accounts in southwestMississippi. As of Sunday afternoon, 75 percent of those accountshad been restored and are receiving electric service.
“Restoration takes time,” said Lucy Shell, member servicesdirector for Magnolia Electric. “The employees are diligentlyworking to restore power to more than 4,000 miles of distributionline, serving the Magnolia members.”
Magnolia officials reminded its members to stay away from downedpower lines, observe generator safety instructions and watch forutility workers on the side of the road.
