Fagan signs to play at Belhaven

Loyd Star infielder Austin Fagan will have the opportunity toplay senior college baseball this season after signing a baseballscholarship with the Belhaven Blazers.
“I am glad to have this opportunity,” said Fagan. “God grantedthe chance for me. I am ready to play.”
Fagan plans to major in psychology.
“I am proud of Austin,” said Loyd Star head baseball coachJonathan Breakfield. “He is a real hard worker. He deservesit.”
During Fagan’s senior year at Loyd Star, he played third andfirst base for the Hornets. At the plate, Fagan had a .306 battingaverage including 18 singles, 3 doubles, a triple and 4 home runs.He scored 26 runs and had 21 RBI. His slugging average was.506.
According to Fagan, Belhaven head baseball coach Hill Densonworked him through drills at second and third base. He is lookingat playing an infield position.
“All of this is a credit to God,” added Fagan. “I’m playing forhim. I’d like to thank my mother for her support, Coach Breakfieldand Clay Smith (Belhaven assistant coach) for their help. It’s anhonor to play college ball.”
Smith helped Fagan during his tryout at Belhaven. Smith is agraduate of Wesson, Co-Lin and Southern Miss.
Belhaven, a member of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference,Baseball Tournament, finished the season 35-24 overall and 16-14finish in GCAC play.
As a team, Belhaven batted .306 on the season and the pitchingstaff combined for an overall 4.17 ERA.
