McConb rips Brookhaven Americans

MCCOMB – The Dixie Youth Baseball Major League District 6championship series got under way Thursday in Danny Nichols Fieldat Edgewood Park, featuring the North champion Brookhaven Americansand the South titleholder McComb All-Stars.
McComb took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series, shutting outthe Americans 9-0; on a combined 2-hitter from McComb pitchersKendrick Hodges and Steven Swindle.
Game 2 of this series is set for Brookhaven’s Keystone Fieldwith the first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m.

Hodges authored the win, starting the first 4 innings. Heallowed no runs, 1 hit with 7 strikeouts. Swindle tossed the final2 innings, giving up 1 hit with 2 strikeouts. Hodges and Swindleeach had a single for head coach Mark Swindle.
McComb jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one complete inning.Hunter Authement, Marquis Lewis and Revis Butler scored. Authementstarted the game with a double.
Lewis and Butler each scored twice to lead McComb. Lewis had asingle and a double, while Butler had a 2-run inside-the-parkhomer.
McComb plated 2 runs in the second, 3 in the third and closedout the scoring with a run in the fifth.
“We were outclassed tonight,” said Brookhaven field managerRobbie Keene. “We just could not make the routine plays.”
Brookhaven was limited to singles by Cade McCullough in thethird and Bubba Keene in the fifth.
Bubba Keene suffered the loss for the Americans. He pitched 2innings, giving up 5 runs, 4 hits, and 1 strikeouts. Tyler Case andGrant Burke each made a relief appearance.
