Four Co-Lin athletes gain Academic A-A recognition

WESSON – The National Junior College Athletic Association(NJCAA) has named four Copiah-Lincoln Community College athletesAcademic All-Americans.
Chris Collins of Brookhaven and Zachary Erwin of Harrisvillewere named Distinguished Academic All-Americans. Collins, a WestLincoln product, finished with a 3.90 grade point average whileErwin posted a 3.88 GPA. Both are members of the NJCAA’s AcademicTeam of the Year in men’s tennis team coached by Mike McIntyre.
Brittany Weeks of Brookhaven and Courtney Angel of Vicksburgwere named Academic All-Americans. Weeks, a member of BrendaSmith’s Lady Wolves tennis team, posted a 3.61 GPA. The Lady Wolvestennis team finished fourth place in the MACJC/Region 23tournament.
Angel played third base for Coach Allen Kent’s Lady Wolvessoftball team. She finished with a 3.78 GPA. An MACJC All-Divisionselection, Angel was slowed in much of 2005 with a town medicalmeniscus ligament in her knee. She appeared in 20 games for theLady Wolves with a batting average of .481.
Angel had 1 home run, 5 doubles and 14 RBIs. She was a NJCAAAll-Region 23 selection in 2004.
The 2005 Lady Wolves (27-6, 13-3) set a school record with 27wins. They were ranked as high as No. 5 in the NJCAA Division IIpoll.
“We are extremely proud of these student athletes and theiraccomplishments on and off the field,” said Co-Lin President Dr.Howell Garner.
To receive Academic All-American honors, students must achievean accumulative grade point average of 3.6 or better on a 4.0 scalefor 45 semester hours, completed three (3) semesters of collegework, and lettered in one or more sports recognized by theNJCAA.
