Brookhaven Police are investigating a Wednesday morning pursesnatching that happened in the driveway of a Bay Street residence,Assistant Chief Nolan Jones said.

Jones said Virginia Atherton had gotten out of her car at her508 Bay St. home when she was approached by a man offering to doyard work around 10:45 a.m. She refused and went under hercarport.

The man, who was riding in an older model vehicle, followed herunder the carport and snatched her purse, Jones said. The suspectwas described as a slender black male, about 5-foot-10-inches to 6feet tall, with a medium complexion.

“This is still under investigation at this time,” Jones said ofthe incident. “We’re hoping something pans out on this.”
