Co-Lin Wolves look ugly losing to Jones

WESSON — It was a beautiful Saturday for baseball but theCo-Lin Wolves played ugly in Sullivan Stadium. They committed 11errors as the Jones County Junior College Bobcats posted 10-2 and13-8 South Division victories.
Co-Lin (23-23, 4-12) hosts Delgado (La.) Community College todayat 1 p.m., for a regular-season finale doubleheader. The Wolvesparticipate in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at Pearl River inPoplarville, May 6, facing Hinds at 2:30.
The Bobcats (20-30, 7-9), like Co-Lin, are out of the runningfor the state title. Pearl River and Gulf Coast will represent theSouth Division in the state tournament which begins Thursday, atNorthwest in Senatobia.
“We gave up 25 freebies today,” said Co-Lin head coach KeithCase, referring to his team’s 11 errors, 12 walks and 2 hitbatsman. “You can’t win many games when you give that many gifts tothe other team.”

Co-Lin was limited to 3 hits, singles by MatthewSchexnayder, Garrett Jones and Jody Britt. Jones had bothRBIs.
Jason Ford hit a 2-run homer for the Bobcats in theseventh.
JCJC scored 6 unearned runs in the fourth inning to sinkthe Wolves.
Sidearm specialist Jonathan Blakeny handcuffed theWolves with a 3-hitter. He walked 2 batters and fanned 2. Both runswere unearned.
Derek Thompson took the loss for Co-Lin. He walked 4batters and fanned 2.
“We had six walks, one hit batter and six errors,” saidCase. “That’s not the ingredients for success inbaseball.”

Dustin Cooke pitched the victory. He gave up 7 runs on 9 hits,walked 3 and fanned 7.
Lance Deville started on the mound for Co-Lin and went 2.1. Hegave up 9 runs on 7 hits, walked 4 and fanned 1.
Will Buckels relieved Deville. Buckels gave up 5 hits, 4 runs,walked 2 and fanned 6.
“Errors and walks did us in again,” said Case. “We walked 6batters and made 5 errors.”
Xavier Qualls collected 3 hits for Co-Lin. Britt and GarrettJones both doubled and singled.
