Bears sweep Pelahatchie

The host West Lincoln Bears overcame a 10-2 deficit with 18 runsin the final four innings to knock of the Pelahatchie Chiefs 20-10in the second game of a varsity baseball doubleheader Tuesdaynight.

In the first game, West Lincoln stuffed Pelahatchie 12-0 in afour-inning contest and sweep the Division 7-1A twinbill.

West Lincoln, coached by Keith Cline, improved to 6-7 on theseason and 3-2 in division play. Pelahatchie remains winless (0-3)in division play and is 5-11 overall.

“In the first game, we won 12-0 and in the second, my kidsplayed hard and scored 18 unanswered runs,” said Cline. “We playedas well offensively and defensively tonight as I’ve seen thisseason. We are a young team and learning. This couple of games putsus in the hunt for the playoffs.”

West Lincoln 20, Pelahatchie 10

Pelahatchie led West Lincoln 10-2 going into the bottom of thethird inning. The Bears scored five runs in the third and fourthinnings and added four runs each in the fifth and sixth.

West Lincoln outhit Pelahatchie 14-4. The Chiefs committed sixerrors to the Bears three.

On the mound, Robby Dees posted the win with five strikeouts andtwo walks. Cory Walsh absorbed the loss with nine strikeouts andseven walks.

Brett Rushing powered West Lincoln at the plate with two doublesand two singles. Mason Douglas smashed a two-run home run and adouble. Josh Rushing and Casey Britt collected a double and asingle apiece. Doubling was James Magee. Zach Williams, Shane Lynchand Dees singled.

Pelahatchie got a grand slam home run and a single from Walsh.Cody Smith, Dustin Keen and Chance White hit safely.

West Lincoln 12, Pelahatchie 0

In the opener, the Bears exploded for 10 runs in the secondinning and added one more in the next two innings to cruise to thewin. Lynch fanned two batters and walked two for the win.

Scott Sampson took the loss, striking out two and walkingsix.

Pelahatchie committed four errors to West Lincoln’s two.

Douglas and Josh Rushing led West Lincoln with a double apiece.Williams ripped a pair of singles. Hitting safely were Britt, Deesand Lynch.

Dustin Keen, Quinn Allen and Ben Conn singled for theChiefs.

West Lincoln hosts division leader Natchez Cathedral Friday fortwo games, The junior varsity game kicks off at 5 p.m. followed bythe varsity at 7. On Saturday, the Bears host Puckett starting at 1with the JV and 3 with the varsity.
