Co-Lin splits Saturday twinbill

SCOOBA — Freshman Scotty Smith picked up his second win of theseason Saturday as the Co-Lin Wolves defeated Northeast CommunityCollege 3-1. In 6 innings, the freshman right-hander fromBrookhaven allowed 1 run on 7 hits, walked 1 and fanned 5.
In the opener, host East Mississippi rallied past Co-Lin7-3.
“We put the ball in play and hit the ball hard at folks in thefirst game,” said Co-Lin head coach Keith Case. “With two outs inthe fifth, we made some mistakes which led to them having a 4-runrally.”
Case said the Wolves “got the hits and did the things we had todo to win,” against Northeast.
The Wolves are 6-6 on the season. They visit Hinds Tuesday forthe second round of the Cellular South Backyard Brawl.
East Miss. 7, Co-Lin 3
Briggs Bishop pitched the victory with 7th-inning relief helpfrom Jonathan Russell. In 6 innings, Bishop gave up 3 runs on 3hits, walked 3 and struck out 1.
Will Buckels for Co-Lin and was replaced by Te Riley in thefifth. Buckels allowed 5 runs on 6 hits, walking 2 and fanning3.
Riley gave up no hits and 1 earned run.
The Wolves got a 4th-innng, 2-run homer from PatrickWilliams.
Matthew Schexnayder drew a walk, advanced to third on a grounderfrom Garrett Jones and scored on a grounder by Jody Britt. JustinSykes and Schexnayder also hit safely.
The Lions got 2 hits from shortstop Richmond Alexander.
Co-Lin 3, Northeast 1
Doubles by Britt and Williams directed Co-Lin’s attack.Collecting singles for the Wolves were Adam Ogden, Josh Logan,Garrett Jones, Qualls and Sykes.
The Wolves scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to break a1-1 deadlock. Jones led off with a single. Britt reached andadvanced to second on an error. Jones scored on a passed ball andOgden followed with an RBI single.
Freshman relief hurler Joseph Langham gave up 1 hit and struckout 1 batter to earn his first save.
