Hinds AHS rips Wesson

WESSON — The Hinds AHS Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs proved Fridaynight why they are one of the top two teams in the Division 6-2A.The Bulldogs crushed the Wesson Cobras 84-38 and the Lady Bulldogsskinned the Lady Cobras 67-36.
The Hinds AHS boys improved to 19-2 overall and 5-0 in thedivision while the Lady Bulldogs improved to 17-3 and 5-0 indivision action.
The Wesson boys fell to 12-9 on the season and are 3-3 indivision play. The Lady Cobras stand 2-4 in the division and 8-12on the season
Hinds AHS 84, Wesson 38
The Wesson boys closed the first quarter gap to 11-8. Insecond-quarter action, the Bulldogs jumped on the Cobras for a 22-2run to carry lopsided 33-10 lead at the half.
“They made their shots and we didn’t,” said Wesson boys coachRon Kessler after the loss.
Again, Wesson struggled at the start of the third quarter andwas outscored 26-6 as Hinds AHS carried a 40-point, 59-19, leadinto the final frame.
The only player in double figures for the Cobras was seniorguard Wade Williams with 11 points and five steals. Tops off thebackboards with nine rebounds and four blocked shots was CollinKing. Phil Fortenberry grabbed four rebounds.
The leading scorer for Coach Keith Willis’ Bulldogs was MarioWebb with a game-high 20 points. JuCorey Wright netted 10points.
Hinds AHS 67, Wesson 36
The Lady Bulldogs pounced on the Lady Cobras for an 11-0 rununtil Natasha Brown landed a field goal to put Wesson on thescoreboard with 5:40 left in the first quarter. Going in the secondquarter, Hinds AHS led 22-7 and pushed their lead to 30-19 at thehalf.
The second half saw the Lady Bulldogs continue to pour in thepoints, outscoring the Lady Cobras 37-17.
“Hinds AHS is a great team,” stated Wesson girls coach JemmyeAnn Helms. “We’re continuing to get better.”
The Lady Cobras got 13 points and 14 rebounds from Brown. MeganAllen fired in 10 points and pulled down six rebounds. Sam Ellisongrabbed four rebounds.
Powering Coach Bruce Baker’s Lady Bulldogs was Cleta Davis with15 points and Mercedes Williams with 14.
Junior varsity game
Hinds AHS nipped Wesson 25-22 in the junior varsity girls game.Elizabeth Delaughter paced Wesson with eight points followed byShanell Adams with seven.
Brittani Havard led Hinds AHS with seven points followed byAlexis McGriggs with six.
Wesson travels to Madison St. Joseph and Hinds AHS meets PineyWoods Tuesday night for more division action. The Cobras hostsPiney Woods Friday.
