Ex-alderman Jackson dies

Services for former Ward Three Alderman Charlie “Jitterbug”Jackson of Brookhaven are 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 at St. James M.B.Church with burial in Carver Heights Cemetery.

Visitation is noon until 6 p.m. Thursday at WilliamsMortuary.

Jackson, 76, died Dec. 4, 2004, at his home. He was born inTylertown on Dec. 15, 1927, to Henry Jackson and Mary BoydBrown.

Jackson was retired from the City of Brookhaven and the grocerybusiness. He served as Ward Three Alderman from 1993 until 1997 andwas a member of St. James M.B. Church.

Ward Two Alderman Terry Bates, who served with Jackson on thecity board, said he worked hard for the citizens of Ward Three.

“He served well, and he was good to work with,” Bates said.

Bates said Jackson was like a brother and father to him. Batessaid he was a good friend and their families were close.

“We sure are going to miss him,” Bates said. “I think he made agood alderman, and he believed in what he was doing.”

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Sarah DowJackson; his daughter, Charlene Allen; and his three brothers,Robert Lewis, James Jackson and Wallace Jackson.

Survivors are his daughters, Johnette Henderson of Brookhaven,and Lakendra Hampton of Killeen, Texas; his son, Charlie Jacksonand his wife, Sharon, of Brookhaven; 12 grandchildren; threegreat-grandchildren; a very special goddaughter, Marilyn Dow Harrisof Brookhaven; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives andfriends.
