Falvey following in dad’s footsteps

Chris Falvey is following in his father’s all-star footsteps.The Brookhaven Academy senior linebacker will play for the South inThursday night’s MPSA All-Star Football Game at Mississippi Collegein Clinton.

Kickoff is 6 p.m. in Robinson-Hale Stadium.

“It’s a real honor to play in the all-star game and I’mfollowing in my dad’s footsteps,” said Falvey. His father, LeonardFalvey, played in the 1981 all-star game after a stellar career atBrookhaven Academy where he earned all-conference honors his juniorand senior years at nose guard.

Falvey reports to practice today. Charlie Newlon of McCombParklane is serving as head coach for the South squad.

“I’m really looking forward to the game and getting to meet somenew people,” said Falvey. “It’s a great chance for me.”

Falvey (5-11, 210) said he would like to play college footballbut hasn’t made a decision. He wants to major in wildlife gamemanagement and biology.

“I enjoy playing offense but I like playing linebacker ondefense best,” Falvey admitted. He worked at fullback on offense,helping the Cougars to an outstanding 9-2 campaign under head coachRay Ishee. Falvey made 83 tackles at linebacker.

“I learned a lot on reading offenses and technique from CoachIshee,” said Falvey. “He knows a lot about football.”

Ishee played linebacker at Jones County Junior College and DeltaState University. He said Falvey is a prototype linebacker.

“”Chris has that middle linebacker mentality,” said Ishee. “He’saggressive and tough. He’s a warrior inside.

“Chris has a lot of natural strength,” Ishee added. “He’s builtlike a linebacker and he runs well. He’s a tough young man.”

Falvey said his strength is in his legs. He can leg press 1,600pounds and squat with 400. He runs a 4.9 in the 40-yard dash.

Last year Falvey started at nose guard. “I really likelinebacker because your read the ball a lot better than when youare in the trenches.”

Falvey also plays baseball. He pitches and catches but prefersplaying catcher for Coach Stephen Cooksey.

Also on the South team from this area are J.C. Boyd and KasyStinson of Parklane and Price Henley of Copiah. District 4-AAchampion Centreville Academy will be represented by A.J. Dooley,Blake Devall and Jennings Field.

All-star notes: Last year BA was represented byquarterback Collins Case.
