Hinds AHS, Crystal Springs teams advance

Hinds AHS and Crystal Springs advance the championship games ofthe 2004 Brookhaven Invitational Tournament with impressive winsThursday night in Sinclair Gym.

Hinds AHS swept past McComb, winning the girls game 51-42 overthe Lady Tigers and capturing the boys game by a score of64-52.

Crystal Springs blew past the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats 64-37while the Tigers manhandled the Salem Wildcats 77-59.

Tournament play concludes Saturday with 8 games, getting underway at 10 a.m. with the Lawrence County/Tylertown girls, followingby the boys game at 11:30. The Brookhaven girls meet Salem at 1p.m., following by the Brookhaven/Bogue Chitto boys at 2:30. TheBogue Chitto/McComb girls tip off at 4, followed by Salem andMcComb boys at 5:30.

The championship finals, featuring Hinds AHS and CrystalSprings, beginning at 7 with the girls contest followed by the boysmatchup at 8:30.

Crystal Springs 64, Bogue Chitto 37

The Lady Tigers used their quickness and aggressiveness on bothends of the floor to pick up the 27-point win in a clash ofblue-and-gold felines.

Bogue Chitto, coached by Christi Terrell, kept this game close,trailing 13-9 at the end of the first quarter. Meleah Brown,Kimberlee Thomas and Tanesha Johnson scored for the LadyBobcats.

“We did not play well tonight,” said Terrell, a former LadyBobcat player. “We did not run the floor. We did not blockout.”

Crystal Springs began to pull away in the second quarter with a16-5 run. The Lady Tigers led 29-14 at the intermission. Suma Dixonprovided the spark for head coach Michael McKenny, scoring 8 of hergame-high 17 points in the first half. Dixon was a force on theboards, grabbing 14 rebounds.

Bogue Chitto orchestrated a 21-of-33 performance from thecharity stripe, but made only 8 field goals in the game.

“We did not shoot the ball well,” added Terrell.

Johnson led the Lady Bobcats with 14 points and 3 steals. Thomashad 7 rebounds and 3 steals. Chelsey Miller dished out 2 assists.Bogue Chitto committed 29 turnovers, and was outrebounded32-18.

Hinds AHS 51, McComb 42

The Lady Bulldogs got 17 points from Cieta Davis and 12 fromJerrica Thomas.

Samantha Felder paced head coach Carolyn Whitehead’s Lady Tigerswith a game-high 19 points.

Hinds AHS 64, McComb 52

Hinds AHS led by Joseph White with a game-high 16 points.Antonio Richardson and Mario Webb tossed in 10 points each.

The Tigers, coached by Hilton Harrell, got 11 points from EricMitchell and 10 from Otis Smith.

Crystal Springs 77, Salem 59

The Tigers got a game-high 22 points from Vontarrian Adams; withJeMario Martin adding 14, and Untarvio Green scored 12.

The Wildcats, coached by Kenneth Murphy, tallied 21 points fromJames Ratcliff and 16 from Chucky Ellzey.
