Brookhaven girl, 14, dies in interstate wreck

A 14-year-old Brookhaven girl died following a two-vehicleaccident Sunday morning on Interstate 55, Lincoln CountyCoroner-Medical Examiner Clay McMorris said.
Chaka Simmons, 14, of 204 Walnut St., was a passenger in thefront seat of a car driven by her mother, Marion Charles.
The 2001 Toyota Corolla was rear-ended by another vehicle nearmile marker 48 around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Information on the othervehicle involved in the accident was unavailable.
Simmons was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center,where she was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m., McMorris said. Charlesand two other family members in the vehicle were not seriouslyinjured.
Williams Mortuary is in charge of arrangements, which areincomplete.
