Buyers looking for rare items may find them this weekend whenWesson hosts one of its biggest events of the year.
The 33rd annual Flea Market and Outdoor Arts and Crafts Show isscheduled for 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday on Main Street inWesson. The event is sponsored by the Wesson Fire Department.
For those who like to browse through knickknacks, the fleamarket is the perfect place to be, Furr said. During the event, vendors will display their wares for public view and purchase.Items available range from tools to antiques, jewelry andwoodwork.
“People like it (the festival) because they can browse aroundand see what other people have,” said Kenneth Furr, longtime fleamarket chairman. “They come and stay all day, and they can buystuff here they can’t find anywhere else.”
The flea market is an event residents and others fromsurrounding states look forward to attending every year, Furrsaid.
“We get vendors from Texas, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana,”Furr said.
According to Furr, the flea market averages around 200-250vendors a year. He is hoping that this year’s vendor count willexceed last year’s total.
“I’ve had people calling me asking me about it,” said Furr.
Furr, who has served as chairman every since the festival’sbeginning, said he volunteers his time because he enjoys being partof the event.
“I just like to do it,” he said, “and it helps the firedepartment.”
Proceeds from the flea market are used for operating costs forthe fire department.
Furr is expecting the flea market, which will this year includea children’s play area, to be as successful as it always is.
“It’s only a one day out of the year thing,” he said.
For prospective vendors getting a late start on entering booths, vendors can register up until the morning of the flea market, heexplained. Booth space is open to any vendor, but only Wesson arearesidents can operate food booths. To register a booth or for moreinformation, contact Furr at (601) 643-2672 or (601) 643-2246.
