For the third time this year, the Brookhaven Board of Aldermenhas a vacancy, and a special election is needed to fill theposition.
The latest came last week, following the untimely death of WardFour Alderman Don Estes. Estes had been on the board for about twomonths after succeeding Bob Massengill, who was elected mayor in anearlier special election.
As a longtime business owner and former chamber president, Esteswas interested in the community and strived to help make it abetter place. Those efforts continued during his brief time on theboard.
With Brookhaven facing a number of economic development issues,it will be vital that the new Ward Four alderman possess the samecommunity-minded spirit. Also, with Ward Four having the largestpopulation, whoever holds that office speaks for a significantnumber of citizens.
Qualified candidates are needed to help keep Ward Four and therest of the city moving in the right direction. We encourage WardFour residents who wants to see the city continue to prosper toseek the post. And if early interest is any indication, it seemsthose interested residents are already stepping up.
