Lawrence girls skin Lady Cobras

MONTICELLO — The Lawrence County Lady Cougars produced a 15-3slowpitch softball win over the Wesson Lady Cobras Thursday night.The game went 4 1/2 innings.
Lawrence (5-2) went up 3-1 over Wesson in the first inning. TheLady Cougars were leading 7-2 after three then exploded for eightruns in the bottom of the fourth to push their lead to 15-2. TheLady Cobras added one run in the top of the fifth to cut thedeficit to 15-3 when the game was officially called.
The Lady Cougars outhit the Lady Cobras 17-8. Wesson committedthree errors to Lawrence’s two.
Posting the win on the mound was Kaila Givens. Julie Berryabsorbed the loss.
Jasmine Courtney directed Lawrence at the plate with two doublesand a singe. Emily Smith ripped a home run and singled. Sonni Smithdoubled and singled twice. Ryane Garrett and Ellie Fairburn singledtwice apiece. Hitting safely were Katie Davis, Cori Walker, MayganMcCloud, Givens and Jessica Johnson.
Leading Wesson with a double and two singles was Sam Ellison.Nikki McCardle doubled and singled. Monica Garcia and Berrycollected two singles apiece. Singling were Bethany Dykes and PerryK. Furr.
In the junior varsity game, Lawrence whippedWesson 25-1.
Lawrence visits North Pike Saturday for a doubleheader,beginning with the junior varsity at 6 p.m. Wesson travels toWarren Central Thursday for a doubleheader.
