Restaurants, Trust plan ‘tasty’ event

The Brookhaven Trust is ringing out a New Year’s Eve event infavor of a “tastier” fund-raising alternative.
“A Taste of the Trust,” scheduled for Nov. 4, will offerparticipants an opportunity to sample menu items from well-knownrestaurants around Mississippi, Memphis and New Orleans, said EmilyHenderson, Brookhaven Trust president.
“Some really good restaurants are coming, and we’re excited,”Henderson said.
Henderson said more than 30 restaurants will be there tohighlight their signatures dishes. Among the restaurants planningto attend are Silky’s BBQ, from Beale Street in Memphis; Char, fromJackson, and others from Jackson and Brookhaven.
The event is 6:30-9:30 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Brookhaven RecreationDepartment on Highway 51. Tickets are $25.
The “Taste of the Trust” fund-raiser gala is replacing the “ANight on the Town” event that was held the last few years. Thatevent culminated with the ringing in of the new year in downtownBrookhaven.
While the Taste of the Trust is new, it is retaining some of theattractions of the New Year’s activities. Among those are livemusic and a silent auction, in which attendees can bid on a varietyof items and packages.
Trust members are lining up items for the silent auction,confirming restaurant attendance, and making other event plans.Henderson said people can get a list of restaurants planning toattend and other information by visiting the Brookhaven Trust’s Website at www.BrookhavenTrust.org.
“We hope we can get a really good attendance that evening,’Henderson said.
Money raised from the event will go toward supporting theTrust’s ongoing historic preservation efforts and the BrookhavenArts Council, which brings a variety of arts and education eventsto the community.
