Lady Panthers stop Lady Bobcats

BOGUE CHITTO — Stan Long Field was the site for a LincolnCounty slowpitch softball clash between Brookhaven and Bogue ChittoThursday evening. The Lady Panthers started slow, but finishedstrong to the tune of a 9-6 win over the previously unbeaten LadyBobcats.
Brookhaven shutout Bogue Chitto 11-0 in the JV game.
Bogue Chitto travels to Natchez Monday, while Brookhaven headsto Wesson Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers (5-2) are on a 5-game winning streak, sincedropping a pair to Madison Central and Pearl in the BrookhavenClassic.
“Our bats came to life tonight,” said Lady Panther head coachLisa Covington. “Good win for us over a good ballclub.”
Brookhaven tallied the first run on the night, garnering a 1-0lead in the top of the third. Taylor Crane reached on an error, andlater scored on a RBI single from Allyson Wallace.
Bogue Chitto (5-1) answered in their half of the third, to takethe lead 3-1. Latoya Braxton reached on an error. Dori Hallsingled. Two batters later, Chelsey Miller’s single scored Braxtonand Hall. Two batters later, Meleah Brown singled to scoreMiller.
Covington’s squad erupted for 5 runs in the fifth. Crane,Brittany Smith, Terri Hodges, Christi Martin and Kayla Princescored for the Lady Panthers, as they delivered 6 hits in theinning to increase their cushion to 6-3.

The Lady Bobcats got a pair of runs from and Latoya Braxton andpinch hitter Kelly Howard in the bottom of the fifth. Bogue Chittostill trailed 6-5.
Crane and Ashley Sykes scored on RBIs from Brittany Smith andWallace to take a 8-5 lead.
Both teams would dial long distance to close out the scoring.Bogue Chitto got an inside-the-park homer from Candace Braxton inthe sixth, while Brookhaven got a 4-bagger from Kelly Vinson in thetop of the seventh.
“We just did not hit the ball when we needed too,” said LadyBobcat head coach Scott Leggett. “We lost to a good ballclub(Brookhaven) tonight.”
Crane led the Lady Panthers with 3 singles and 3 runs scored.Sykes had 2 singles. Vinson singled, doubled and homered and had 2RBIs. Christi Martin singled and tripled. Wallace singled twice andhad 3 RBIs.
Bogue Chitto was led by Chelsey Miller with 2 singles and a runscored. Meleah Brown singled twice. Candace Braxton singled andhomered. Latoya Braxton scored twice. Danielle Sasser suffered theloss for the Lady Bobcats.
In the JV game, Bogue Chitto got singles fromKelly Howard and Shaquille Burton. Caitlin Owen was the losingpitcher.
Brookhaven got run support from Hannah Lowman (2), Jana Wallace,Amanda McIntyre (2), Katie Stewart, Caryanne Rake, Brianna Ashmore,Sabrina Delaughter and Ashley Parks. Hitting safely were McIntyre,Rake, Cari Langston (2)Delaughter and Karlee Martin. Ashmore pickedup the win, with Vinson coming on in relief.
