Leggetts take over Bogue Chitto softball

Bogue Chitto has a husband-wife team to direct their highlysuccessful softball program. Scott and Denise Leggett plan to keepthe winning tradition in high gear.
“I’m very excited to be at Bogue Chitto,” said Scott Leggett.”It’s home to me. We have a great group of girls and I expect a lotout of them.”
A 1993 Bogue Chitto graduate, Leggett attended Copiah-LincolnCommunity College, LSU and Southern Miss. He majored in sportsmedicine and minored in history, graduating from USM in 1999. Hewill teach social studies at Bogue Chitto.
Leggett, 29, coached one year at Brookhaven Academy beforemoving to Enterprise where he coached 4 years. He was head footballcoach and assistant baseball coach last year.
Softball tryouts at Bogue Chitto are scheduled for Monday, July19, starting at 9 a.m., on Stan Long Field. Leggett said playersshould report by 8:30.
Bogue Chitto will host Natchez for a Classic game Aug. 6,starting at 5 p.m. Both of BC’s teams, slowpitch and fastpitch,advanced to the state playoffs last season under former head coachDuane Burt and his wife/assistant Amy.
Denise Warren Leggett, 24, married her husband last year. Shewas a standout softball player at Loyd Star. She played tennis,singles and doubles at Co-Lin.
She will teach sixth grade math, science and social studies atBogue Chitto. She majored in music therapy a William Carey College.Her master’s degree in arts of teach was obtained from BelhavenCollege.
“I’m excited about coaching and teaching at Bogue Chitto,” saidDenise. She taught and coached the first tennis team at Enterpriselast year. She also directed the dance team.
“Bogue Chitto is very competitive in athletics,” said Leggett.”I hope we can have continued success.”
Bogue Chitto principal Jerry Meador said he was happy to havethe Leggetts on his staff. “Scott and Denise bring a lot ofexperience to our softball program. He has some close ties to theBogue Chitto community. We are glad to have them as part of ourfamily at Bogue Chitto. They will do a great job with our softballprogram.”
Recently hired at Bogue Chitto were Christi Wallace Terrell tocoach girls basketball and Todd Wilson to coach boys basketball.They replaced Jason Kennedy who has taken a coaching position atFranklinton, La.
