Dixie Youth, Boys action heats up

Dixie Youth and Dixie Boys Baseball tournament competition heatsup tonight with the start of postseason play. The Dixie BoysDistrict Four Tournaments begin at two locations, 14s in Natchezand 13s on the Brookhaven Exchange Club’s Cap Sam Brown Field.

The Dixie Youth Major League 11-year-olds begin play in theNorth Subdistrict Six Tournament at Natchez Friday night The 12sstart subdistrict play tomorrow night at Copiah Academy in Gallman.All of the tournaments are double-elimination.

This is the first year for Dixie Youth to have an 11-year-oldall-star tournament. It allows more players to compete but itdilutes the talent level, especially in Brookhaven’s situationwhere the league sends two teams to the subdistricttournaments.

“Three of my 11-year-old pitchers are on the 12-year-old team,”said American League coach Lee Barry. “We could have been muchstronger with them on the roster.”

Brooks 14s Play Tonight

At Natchez tonight, Brookhaven’s 14-year-old all-stars playSummit at 7 p.m. The winner plays Natchez Friday night at 7. Anelimination game will be played Saturday.

Playing for Brookhaven’s 14s are Jacob Dunn, Sawyer Wallace,Scotty Brown, Marcus Smith, Justin Boone, John Floyd, Seth Cliburn,Ben Head, Ben McDowell, Kolby Byrd, Robbie Coone, Ty Smith andTrent Rutland. Coaches are Perry Brown, Glynn Smith and IraHead.

Brook 13s Draw Bye

At Exchange Club Park, Brookhaven drew an opening round bye andfaces the winner of tonight’s Natchez-Summit game Friday night at7. Brookhaven’s 13-year-old all-star squad includes NickHelmstetter, Jacob Morse, Caleb Williams, Micah Bivens, JustinAshley, Will Gatlin, Sid Cawthorn, Kody Crestman, Trent Herrington,Matthew Bowman, Ryan Williamson, Ky Burke and Brett Rushing.Coaches are Darrell Morse, Lester Williams and Jeff Gatlin.

11s At Natchez

Members of the Brookhaven Dixie Youth Baseball 11-year-oldNational League all-star squad are Alan Michael Allred, DillonNewell, Dewey Stailey, Samuel Ballard, Grant Burke, Joel Patrick,Danny Ford, Travis Sorrels, Bubba Keene, Gabe Wilson, DustinTreadway, Travis Keene and Ruffin Oberschmidt. Coaching theBrookhaven Nationals are Marc Newell, Ronnie Keene and MarkWilson.

The American League dream team includes Cody White, Jedd Moak,Garrett Greer, Cody Beeson, Cade McCullough, Sawyer Pepper, CameronBarry, Stone Underwood, Joel Alexander, Jay Case, Tyler Barnett,Aaron Durr and Drew Granger. Coaches are Lee Barry, Ray Greer andJimmy White.

The Subdistrict Six Tournament starts Friday in Natchez, atDuncan Park. The Americans play Wesson at 6 p.m. and the Nationalsmeet powerhouse McComb at 8 tomorrow night.

In the 12-year-old subdistrict at Gallman, the BrookhavenNationals play Natchez at 6 and Wesson meets Copiah County at 8.The Brookhaven Americans play the winner of the Wesson-Copiah gameSaturday at 6 p.m. Friday’s first round losers play Saturday at 8in an elimination game.

The Brookhaven National League all-star squad includes BrandonFoster, Adam Watson, Cody Smith, Tyler Case, Zach Bowman, ClintStewart, Brent Henderson, Jamison Powell, Clint Allen Scott,Patrick Valentine, Jonathan Crosby, Jeremy Buckley and Deek Keene.Coaches are Barry Foster, Dennis Valentine and Gary Stewart.
