We want to remind area gun owners of an important safety programthat is now under way.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and the BrookhavenPolice Department are providing free gun locks, while the supplylasts. About 1,200 of the locks are available locally.

Both departments are participating in Project ChildSafe. That’sa national firearm safety education and gun lock program thatpromotes safe firearms handling and secure storage practices.Project ChildSafe made the gun locks available here.

We hope gun owners who don’t already have such safety deviceswill take advantage of this opportunity. We also thank the policeand sheriff’s departments for taking part it this program. It’sjust one of the many ways they’re working to keep our communitysafe.
