Services for Earl Benson “Ben” Jones of Madison are 11 a.m.,Wednesday, Feb. 11, at Wright & Ferguson’s Parkway Chapel withburial in Parkway Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation is Tuesday from 5-7 p.m., and Wednesday from 10-11a.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Jones, 71, died Feb. 8, 2004, at St. Dominic-JacksonMemorial Hospital. He was born in Attala County to Earl MorrisJones and Dorothy Jenkins Jones.
He worked in South Central Bell’s accounting department inJackson from 1957 to 1977, serving as district manager of dataprocessing. He began serving in 1977 as division manager of dataprocessing in Louisville, Ky., retiring to Madison in 1988. Heattended school in Durant, and graduated from Brookhaven HighSchool in 1950. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Hereturned from service in Korea in 1955, and completed his degree inaccounting at Mississippi State University in 1957. He was a memberof First Baptist Church of Jackson. He enjoyed gardening andspending time with his family. He was a former member of theOptimist Club in Jackson, and was active in the Telephone Pioneersof America during retirement.
Survivors are his wife of 48 years, Carolyn Mathis Jones,formerly of Brookhaven; his children and their spouses, Vicki JonesWaldrop and Carl of Ridgeland, Jennifer Jones Fairly and Dan ofBrandon, Jeffrey Mathis Jones and Debbie of Madison, and JohnMorris Jones and Rebecca of Columbus; his sister, Jeanette McVay ofHuntsville, Ala.; his grandchildren, Chad and Matthew Waldrop,Daniel and Christina Fairly, and Taylor and Cathrine Jones; andnumerous other relatives.
