A Lake Providence, La., man died Thursday night following aone-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 north, authorities said

Wendall Pate, 41, was traveling north on the interstate when hisFord F-150 and hit a guard rail about five miles north ofBrookhaven, said Mississippi Highway Patrol Staff Sgt. RodCrawford. The accident happened around 10 p.m.

Lincoln County Coroner-Medical Examiner Clay McMorris said Patewas taken by ambulance to King’s Daughters Medical Center, where hewas pronounced dead at 11:35 p.m.

There was no one else in the truck with Pate and no othervehicles involved in the crash. Pate was not wearing his seat belt,Crawford said.

Pate was traveling to Jackson where his father was scheduled tohave surgery, McMorris said. Cox Funeral Home in Delhi, La., is incharge of arrangements.
