BA romps over Columbia Acad.

Center Alex Davis sacked 24 points and 11 rebounds Tuesdaynight, directing the Brookhaven Academy Cougars to a 73-48 triumphover Columbia Academy in District 4-AA action. Davis also had 4steals.
In the varsity girls game, Brookhaven Academy whipped Columbia69-33 as Kelli Byrd scored 13 points and Jessie Altman scored12.
Brookhaven Academy resumes play Friday night, hosting SillimanInstitute for a district test in John R. Gray Gymnasium.
The Cougars (17-2, 4-0) finished with 4 players in doublefigures. Jonathan Winborne followed Davis with 14 points, JeremyWinborne scored 13 and Cole Hodges 12. Hodges also had 6 rebounds,10 assists and 4 steals. Jonathan Winborne had 6 rebounds, 7assists and 5 steals as the hosts roared to a 36-20 halftimelead.
“I was pleased with the way my boys played in the second half,”said BA coach Dale Watts. “We stepped up our intensity level.”
Columbia Academy coach Reid McCay complimented the Brookhavensquad. “They are a solid team and very well coached. Brookhavenplayed the way we want to play. They executed very well.
“The Hodges kid impressed me,” added McCay. “He can handle theball well and defend as well. Coach Watts is the best coach in theMPSA.”
Columbia (12-4, 3-2), also nicknamed Cougars, got 15 points fromThomas Gray and 11 from Garrett Douglas.
The BA Lady Cougars (22-0, 4-0), ranked No. 1 in the MississippiPrivate School Association, rolled to another big victory for CoachBarry Gray. They led Columbia 41-16 at halftime, allowing Gray tosubstitute early.
“We did a good job on our press and we were efficient on ourshot selection,” said Gray. “It was good to see everyone contributein scoring tonight.”
On the backboards, Mallory Logan pulled down 9 rebounds forBrookhaven. Byrd added 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals.
“Brookhaven is a real fine team,” said Columbia coach Ray Haney.”My girls couldn’t handle the pressure. We missed our shots earlyand never caught up.”
Columbia (6-10, 2-3) got 8 points from Anna Patterson.
Junior High Results
Brookhaven Academy won both junior high games as the LadyCougars won 38-24 and the Cougars prevailed 59-48.
Brookhaven’s girls (14-1, 7-0) got 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5steals from Holly Case. Casey Smith had 5 points. Hannah Watts andKelli Snider each had 4 points.
Columbia got 8 points from Abby McCain.
Brookhaven’s boys were powered by T-Boy Lynch’s 24 points. CoryBailey had 18 points. Price Sessums netted 7 points and SawyerWallace 6.
Leading Columbia were Ben Selman with 19 points and CoreySumrall with 14.
Seventh Grade Results
In a preliminary seventh grade boys game, BA beat Columbia45-31, led by Ty Smith’s 14 points. Josh Winborne and Kolby Byrdscored 10 apiece.
