Kay Coon wins school board post

Kay Kyzar Coon was glad to be able to fulfill her late husbandJerry’s wishes by securing a position on the Lincoln County SchoolBoard for the next three years.
“I’m just honored that the people gave me the chance to finishout his term,” said Coon after hearing election resultsTuesday.
Coon had 675 votes to Carolyn Greer Welch’s 451 in final, butunofficial totals.
Her husband, who had been a school board member since 1980, diedof cancer on April 15.
Before his death, Coon said he had talked with her aboutfinishing his responsibility to the students, teachers and parentsin the Enterprise area as well as the entire school district.
“I feel really good about being able to do that,” she said.”This time for us is kind of nostalgic.”
Coon was appointed to her late husband’s position on the boardin May.
She hopes to see out what he helped start in the district.
“We have plans to complete all the construction and work withthe new superintendent to see what his plans and recommendationsare.”
Terry Brister was elected to fill the top education position inthe district after the retirement of Perry Miller.
