May makes big noise in rush department

He’s just a sophomore but Enterprise tailback Terrell May ismaking a lot of noise on the football field.

In Enterprise’s 30-14 win over West Lincoln last Friday, Mayrushed the football 25 times for 282 yards and 3 touchdowns.

May has scored a combined 8 touchdowns in the first 3 games ofthe 2003 season. Last year, he finished the year with 8 TDs as afreshman.

For his achievements, May has been named the DAILY LEADER’SOffensive Player of the Week for the third week of the 2003football season.

“It feels good,” smiled May of being named Offensive Player ofthe Week.

May (6-1, 195) runs a 40 yard dash in 4.6. He bench presses 250pounds. May has already rushed for 648 yards this season.

“He (May) can take a lickin’,” said Enterprise head coach ScottLeggett. “He has natural ability. He is the best back I’vecoached.”

Leggett coached the Enterprise junior high team before takingover the head coaching position when Ricky Deere retired in August.He has been coaching May since the seventh grade.

“Terrell is doing a great job as a sophomore,” added Leggett.”Last year, he had 8 touchdowns. He has 8 already now. He is agreat kid.”

According to May, he scored his 6-yard touchdown against WestLincoln on a 43, a power play. The long run (46 yards) came on a47, a long sweep across the field.

May was used to running the Notre Dame Box in junior high beforeLeggett installed it in the high school varsity this season.

“It’s a good thing,” said May. “It’s kind of easy to learn. Ilike playing it.”

May was complementary of his offensive line. “We played fine. Weblocked real good.”

The starting linemen on offense sometimes vary, according toLeggett. Most of the time, the line starts with left tackle MattWaldrop (6-0, 200, sr.), left guard Erik Clark (5-11, 185, so.),center Justin Vincent (5-9, 210, so.), right guard Corey Smith(6-3, 220, sr.), right tackle Vincent Smith (6-3, 360, so.) andtight end Mike Waldrop (6-0, 185, sr.).

May talked about team and personal goals. “We want to win theplayoff games. I want to rush for over 1,000 yards.”

Friday night, Enterprise is at home to host the Mt. OlivePirates on Harry Cole Field. May had some thoughts about what heand the Jackets needed to do to win this Region 4-1A contest.

“We need to work on our passing game,” explained May. “Thedefense needs to work a little harder. We need to have nopenalties. No turnovers.”

May said he might try out for the boys basketball team atEnterprise after the football season concludes.

In the classroom, his favorite subjects are history and socialstudies.

May is a fan of Notre Dame. His favorite NFL team is TampaBay.
