The West Lincoln girls, led by senior guard Dana King, produceda strong second half and defeated the Loyd Star Lady Hornets 63-46Friday night in Jack Case Gymnasium. King finished with a game-high22 points.

In the varsity boys game, Jared Britt’s 18 points powered LoydStar to a 53-43 triumph.

The Lady Bears (3-1) trailed Loyd Star 29-25 athalftime. They outscored the Lady Hornets 38-17 in the last twoquarters of action as Hanna Johnson tossed in 13 points and LaurenSmith 10.

“We played a good first half but we went cold in thesecond half,” said Loyd Star coach Lori Britt. “We missed too manyfree throws,” making 3 of 12 from the charity line.

On offense, Loyd Star was led by Jamakia Henderson’s 18points, plus 4 assists and 3 steals. Ava Brown added 9 rebounds and9 points.

“In the second half our girls played well,” said WestLincoln coach Lane Young. “We made key plays and key shots. Theyare making progress.”

The Hornets (5-0) trailed West Lincoln’s boys 25-20 athalftime. They outscored the Bears 33-18 the secondhalf.

“In the fourth quarter we had some turnovers that hurtus and we missed some key free throws,” said Coach Young. “LoydStar took advantage of those mistakes and cashed them in on theother end.”

West Lincoln got 15 points from Luke Lofton and 14 fromDorian Dunn.

“Our defense was good and we had a good team effort,”said Loyd Star coach Gene Britt. “West Lincoln played a very goodballgame. I’m pleased to see the progress they’re making with theirnew coach.”

Junior High Results

Loyd Star 37-24 in the junior high boys game, led byAdam Case and Randy Fells with 12 and 10 points respectively. WestLincoln got 11 points from Aaron Shaw and 10 from JeremyRice.

In the junior high girls game, Loyd Star won 27-13, ledby Ellen Sones and Carlie Smith with 6 points each. Britany Brownand Annie Smith scored 4 points apiece.

West Lincoln got 10 points from Kayla Moak.
