West Lincoln girls clinch division title; bow to Enterprise

TYLERTOWN – The West Lincoln Lady Bears whipped Salem 9-2 Mondayat the Tylertown Water Park in Division 7-1A slowpitch softballaction. Senior Hanna Roberts was the winning pitcher as the LadyBears finished with 16 hits and clinched the divisionchampionship.
“We have a real good group of girls who play team ball,” saidWest Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “I’m real proud of them. This isthe first time in a long time for West Lincoln to windistrict.”
West Lincoln will host an opening round series of the stateplayoffs, Oct. 15.
At the plate, West Lincoln sophomore second baseman Lauren Smithwent 3-for-3. Freshman catcher Britney Phillips doubled twice andsingled. Freshman third baseman Britnee Smith singled and doubled.Senior shortstop Dana King singled twice.
Also hitting safely were Alicia Kennedy, Jessie Jergins, LyndsayFranklin, Chastity Avants, April Kennedy and Roberts.
Enterprise 8, West Lincoln 4
Returning to West Lincoln Monday night, the Enterprise girlsbeat West Lincoln in a division test which was rained out lastThursday. Nikki Leggett (15-7) was the winning pitcher and Robertsabsorbed the loss.
West Lincoln collected 9 hits. Two hits were provided by BritneeSmith, King and Franklin. Lauren Smith, Alicia Kennedy and Robertssingled.
Directing Enterprise was Leggett with a single, a double andtriple. Nicole Beard , Megan Criswell and Breanna Laird singledtwice as Enterprise took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. KaylinBurke, Ashley Palomarez, Savannah Palomarez, Brandi Beeson and DaraMoak singled as a 4-run fifth gave them an 8-1 lead.
Coach Steve Sasser’s Lady Jackets finish their season at 15-7overall and 7-3 in the division race, trailing West Lincoln andBogue Chitto.
West Lincoln (14-8, 8-1) resumes play Friday, playing at NatchezCathedral, starting at 3:30.
