Lincoln County, Lawrence County and Brookhaven School Districtswere among 66 districts that lost high school subject area testresults in torrential flooding in Texas last weekend.
The test results destroyed were primarily in the Jackson andGulf Coast area, said Susan Rucker, assistant state superintendentfor academic education.
The data has been reclaimed and Rucker said she expects no illeffects from the destruction. The company that produces the testsretained the test data and simply needed to recover the findings, she said.
“(Districts) have the pass-fail roster so they know who needshelp and they have the state data, so I don’t expect anysurprises,” she said.
Results from the subject area tests for grades 2-8 are fine, shesaid. It was only the SATP results at the high school level whichwere damaged. Those tests include Algebra, Biology 1, English 2 andU.S. History.
The test results have already been recompiled, and the companyhas begun reshipping them, Rucker said.
“All of the information has been shipped out,” she said. “Someof it shipped out yesterday and districts should receive it byMonday or Tuesday. The company worked really hard on this.”
Concerns that the destruction of the test results may delay theannouncement of the district’s first “school failure list” inaccordance with the No Child Left Behind Act are unfounded, Ruckersaid.
“No, this will not delay that announcement. That announcementwill be made August 1,” she said.
The test results were destroyed while in transport, Ruckersaid.
They were transferred as freight between aircraft in Houstonduring the heavy torrential rains there last weekend and becamesoaked. By the time they arrived at the distributors in NewOrleans, they were unreadable.
