Lady Wolves sweep S’west in fastpitch

WESSON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves fastpitch softball team swepttwo South Division games from the Southwest Lady Bears Wednesdayafternoon.
Co-Lin won the opener 9-2 and the finale 12-1.
The Lady Wolves have battled back to a 5-7 overall record andare 5-5 in South Division play after going 0-4 at the start of theseason.
“We have a good chance of reaching the state and regionalplayoffs,” said Co-Lin fastpitch head coach Johnny Williams. “Ourreal test will come when we play Hinds and Gulf Coast in the secondround of division play. They are two teams that swept us in thefirst half.”
Recently joining the Co-Lin team is sophomore Laurie Ann Davisfrom the Lady Wolves basketball team.

Powering the Lady Wolves with a home run and two doubles forfour RBI was Tonya Johns. Katie Fallin tripled and singled.Doubling was Jenny Chapman. Janet Chapman collected two singles.Addng support with a single apiece were Krystal Groom, DanielleRoss and Casey Ward.
Fallin was the winning pitcher in seven innings with threestrikeouts, four walks and three hits allowed.
Southwest tied Co-Lin 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning. TheLady Wolves exploded for six runs in the fifth, sparked by aninside-the-park homer by Johns and a triple by Fallin. Co-Lin addedone more run in the sixth.

In the second game, Fallin earned the win again with twostirkeouts, two walks and three hits allowed.
The game was deadlocked at 1-all after three innings. In thefourth, Co-Lin broke loose for 11 unanswered runs to secure thewin.
At the plate, Davina Sandifer directed the Lady Wolves with agrand slam home run in the fourth inning and two singles. JennyChapman and Johns ripped a double and a single apiece. Hittingsafely were Janet Chapman, Kelly Fuller and Groom.
Co-Lin travels to Pearl River Tuesday for a South Divisiondoubleheader which will end the first half of the season.
