Six get jail time during court

Six people earned jail time during sentencing hearings last weekin Lincoln County Circuit Court.

In all, 13 people pleaded guilty to felonies and were sentencedby Judge Keith Starrett. Assistant District Attorney BrandonFrazier complimented city and county law enforcement officials ontheir case preparation that contributed to defendants pleadingguilty.

“We had a lot of really good cases,” Frazier said. “Lawenforcement did an excellent job in working these cases and that’sa great service to the community.”

Three Cincinnati, Ohio, men received eight-year sentences afterpleading guilty to bills of information in their marijuanapossession cases. A bill of information pleading, in effect, avoidsthe grand jury and indictment phase of prosecution.

Michael Brantley, 26; William Washington, 21; and Barry Ellery,22, were ordered to serve the first six years of their sentences,with the last two suspended for five years probation. The last twoyears of Ellery’s sentence is to be served on post releasesupervision instead of probation.

The men were also to pay $10,000 fines and to obtain alcohol anddrug treatment while incarcerated.

In other jail sentencing, Louis Mercier, 38, of 929 HuntersRoad, Bogue Chitto, was to serve the first year of a five-yearsentence for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence ofintoxicating liquor. The last four years are to be served on postrelease supervision and he is to pay a $3,000 fine and be placed ina treatment program.

Robert Warren, 43, of 1165 West Lincoln Dr., is to serve thefirst two years of a five-year sentence for conspiracy tounlawfully transfer alprazolam into a correctional facility. Theremainder of the sentence is to be served on post releasesupervision and he is to pay a $3,000 fine and $40 restitution.

Edgar J. Green, 21, of 622 Zetus Road, was sentenced to 12 yearsfor unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to distributewithin 1,500 feet of a church. He is to serve the first six years,consecutive to the sentence he is currently serving on anothercharge, with the last six years on post release supervision. He wasalso ordered to pay a $5,000 fine and to obtain alcohol and drugtreatment while in prison.

Other sentencing during the week included:

* Randy Smith, 19, of 1520 Falvey Road, Wesson – burglary of anautomobile. He was sentenced to two years, but placed in theRegimented Inmate Discipline (RID) program to earn probation. Hewas also ordered to obtain alcohol and drug treatment, his GED andto pay a $500 fine.

* Stephanie Bryant, 29, of 304 Railroad St. – two counts ofgrand larceny. She was sentenced to two years on each count andplaced in RID, to be followed by a term at the restitution center.She was to get alcohol and drug treatment, pay a $1,000 fine and$1,500 restitution.

* Jennifer Ann Nation, 40, and Stephen Webb, 20, both of 1362Union St. Ext. – uttering forged prescriptions and conspiracy. Theywere sentenced to five years and ordered to serve the first year inthe Intensive Supervision Program, or house arrest, with thebalance on probation. They were also to pay $1,000 fines, with thesentenced stayed until they complete an alcohol and drug treatmentprogram.

* William White Sr., 58, of Blue Springs, Miss. – unlawfulpossession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to three years,suspended for five years probation, and to pay a $1,000 fine.

* Brandie Lachell Thadison, 20, of 205 Smith St. – three countsof credit card fraud. She was sentenced to three years on eachcount, to run concurrently with another sentence, and placed inRID, followed by a term at the restitution center. She was also topay $4,120 restitution, a $300 fine and to obtain addictivedisorder counseling and complete a 12-step program.

* Aza Banks, 20, of 317 East Congress St. – possession of stolenproperty. He was sentenced to three years and placed in the RIDprogram. He was also to pay $6092 restitution and a $5,000fine.
