Brookhaven soccer team wins third straight title; hosts NE Lauderdale in 1st round of state playoffs

McCOMB – The Brookhaven Panther boys soccer team captured theirthird straight Division 6-4A title Tuesday night with a 3-0 winover the McComb Tigers. The win was a special one for Brookhavensoccer coach Rob McCreary who notched his 100th win against 29losses. McCreary is in his sixth year as the BHS boys soccercoach.
Directing the Panthers against McComb with two goals was forwardMatt McGehee. Daniel Gates had one goal.
On a muddy field, Brookhaven took 23 shots on the goal andallowed McComb only one shot the entire game.
The win extends the Panthers’ winning streak to 18 games indivision play. The Panthers have outscored their opponents 60-2 insix division games this season. Brookhaven’s overall record on theyear is 12-4 and 6-0 in division play.
The Panthers begin the 4A state playoffs next Tuesday night.Brookhaven will host Northeast Lauderdale in the first round of theplayoffs. NE Lauderdal beat Laurel in overtime to secure therunner-up position.
The Brookhaven Lady Panther soccer team, which finishedrunner-up to McComb in division play, was shut out by the LadyTigers. Brookhaven travels to Northeast Lauderdale next Tuesday inthe first round of the state playoffs. The girls are currently 9-8overal and 4-2 in division play.
