Jared Britt’s 18 points, five rebounds and five steals directedthe Loyd Star Hornets to a 66-43 win over the West Lincoln BearsFriday night at Loyd Star.

In the varsity girls game, Dana King fired in 12 points andChastity Avants netted 11 points to spark the Lady Bears to a 47-34win over the Lady Hornets.

The Hornets (7-3) were led by Demarcus Barnes who firedin 14 points and had six assists for the Hornets. Jamie Johnsonnetted 11 points and grabbed five rebounds. Jermaine Hunter led offthe backboards with 10 rebounds.

For West Lincoln, Luke Lofton led with 17 points.Finishing with 10 points apiece were Brooks Smith and CodyMitchell. Smith nailed three 3-pointers.

The Loyd Star girls (5-5, 2-2) got nine points, sixrebounds and three steals from Jamakia Henderson. Ava Brown scoredeight points. Ashton Williams led off the backboards with sevenrebounds followed by Beth Smith and Jordan Britt with five reboundsapiece. Britt also made three steals.

“We worked hard on defense,” said Loyd Star girls coachLori Britt. “We struggled offensively. It was a physical game. Wehave to adapt to playing physical.”

Junior high games

Tyler Williford scored 18 points to lead the Hornets toa 35-29 win over the Bears in the junior high boys game. BrentFells knocked in 16 points.

Shane Lynch’s 12 points directed WestLincoln.

In girls action, Erica Shaw pumped in 18 points to leadWest Lincoln to a 36-10 win over Loyd Star. Scoring four pointsapiece for the Lady Hornets were LeAnne Sones and BrittanyBrown.

Loyd Star host St. Aloysius following the holidays onFriday, Jan. 4, 2002. West Lincoln plays at Vicksburg St. Aloysiuson Jan. 8.
