Puckett Wolves eliminate Enterprise in 1A playoffs

PUCKETT – Zack Parker scored two touchdowns Friday night topower the Puckett Wolves in a 21-12 win over the Enterprise YellowJackets in the first round of the Class 1A state footballplayoffs.

Enterprise finished the season with a 7-5 record. Puckett,seeded No. 1 in Region 3-1A, advances to the second round and willhost Lincoln County’s Bogue Chitto (11-1) Friday night.

“We played extremely hard,” said Enterprise head football coachRickey Deere. “We had a good effort. They (Puckett) have a realgood ball club with a lot of speed. Their defense was probably thebest defense we have seen all year.”

Enterprise trailed Puckett 14-0 at the half. A four-yard run byTerrell Jackson put the Wolves up 7-0 at the end of the firstquarter. Zack Parker rushed for a six-yard TD in the secondquarter.

Jacket senior Bobby Smith recovered a fumble and exploded for a60-yard touchdown return which cut the deficit to 14-6 in the thirdquarter. The pass for two points failed.

Puckett pushed its lead to 21-6 early in the fourth quarter on a1-yard run by Parker.

Enterprise quarterback Justin Kyzar connected with MontiCrotwell on a 57-yard pass-play for the final TD. The kickfailed.

“We played hard,” Deere stated. “And we just came up short. Weare proud of what we have done. We are just glad for theopportunity to go to the playoffs.

” It was a good game,” Deere added. “We are proud of it. Theseniors we have, have been together since 7th grade. We have hadmore good times than bad. I have a lot of good memories with thatgroup.”
