NE Lauderdale eliminates Lady Panthers

MERIDIAN -The Northeast Lauderdale Lady Trojans swept BrookhavenSaturday in the second round of the Class 4A state slowpitchsoftball playoffs. The Lady Trojans won the opener 3-0 and thenightcap 7-3.
The Lady Panthers finish the season with a 17-14 record.Northeast Lauderdale (29-4) will play Lawrence County in the SouthState finals.
“We had a good year,” said Brookhaven coach Lisa Covington.”Overall we had a good season with a young group of girls.” Thereare only two seniors on the squad.
NE Lauderdale 3, Brookhaven 0
Brookhaven was limited to 4 hits in the opener. MeganBateman, Samantha Boutwell, Shamika Gilmore and Chiquita Rancifersingled for the Lady Panthers.
Mandy Vinson was the losing pitcher. Blair Rawson wasthe winning pitcher.
“Rawson was a very good pitcher,” said Covington. “Shehad a lot of arch on her pitches.”
The Lady Trojans finished with 5 hits and capitalized onBrookhaven’s 4 errors.
NE Lauderdale 7, Brookhaven 3
Three singles by second baseman Ginnny Dunaway pacedBrookhaven in the finale. Boutwell, Gilmore, Vinson, Ashley Sykesand Devine Porter singled.
The Lady Trojans accounted for 15 hits, all of themsingles.
