Summit rally sinks Brook 6-4 in district

SUMMIT – The Brookhaven American League All-Stars made an earlyexit from the Dixie Youth Baseball Major League District SixTournament, losing 6-4 to the Summit All-Stars Tuesday night atWindsor Gay Youth Sports Complex. The defeat eliminated Brookhavenwhich lost 10-2 to McComb Monday night in the opening round of thedouble-elimination tournament.

Summit remains alive in the tournament and plays Natchez Wallacetonight at 6 in an elimination game. McComb beat Natchez 9-7 in 9innings last night.

Unbeaten McComb plays the winner of the Summit-Natchez gameThursday night. The district champion advances to the statetournament in Hattiesburg which begins July 30.

Summit 6, Brookhaven 4

Summit overcame a 4-0, first-inning deficit with 3unearned runs in the bottom of the third. A single by ChristopherHamilton drove in Laney Sullivan with the tying run in the fourth,making it 4-4.

Still in the fourth, Summit’s Russ Brown scored on afielder’ s choice and Hamilton came home on an error, giving Summita 6-4 advantage.

Summit pitcher Corey Dickerson went the distance. Heretired 18 of the 26 batters he faced. He fanned 7 and walked4.

Summit finished with 5 hits. Dusty Smith, Dickerson,Hamilton, Sullivan and Brown singled.

Brookhaven was limited to 4 hits by Dickerson. R.J.Jenkins doubled. Daniel Watson, Josh Coone and Robbie Coonesingled.

Josh Coone started on the mound for the Americans andwent 4 innings. He fanned 3 and walked 4, holding Summit hitlessuntil the third.

Brandon Smith replaced Coone on the mound.
