Franklin plays host to Flashes

BUDE – Summer League 2001, that’s what the Franklin CountyDiamond Dogs are gearing up for as season play begins Tuesday nightwhen St. Aloysius of Vicksburg visits. Action begins at 6 p.m. inthe doubleheader.
The Diamond Dogs open up a 21-game schedule that will behighlighted by trips to the McComb/Parklane Tournament on June 8thand 9th, and possibly to the 4th of July Bash at the BeachTournament in Pensacola, Fla.
Coaching the Dawgs are Wayne Trout, Ricky King and MickeyBeach.
The Diamond Dogs roster will include nine seniors, three juniorsand two sophomores. All 14 members on the roster have playedvarsity or junior varsity baseball this past regular season.
Two of the nine seniors are Division 6-3A players Vance Windom(6-0, 175) at center field and Kyle Trout (6-12, 170) at firstbase.
Other seniors include pitcher/second baseman Richard King,outfielder Sonny Brown, outfielder/infielder Cliff Herring,pitcher/first baseman Tom Wimberly, outfielder Jake Bradford andcatcher Bert Smith.
Juniors include all-division pitcher Colby Beach (6-1, 175) whowill be the ace on the mound. Beach will also play third base andother infield gaps when not pitching.
Infielder Todd Spring and pitcher/outfielder Dewayne Mitchellare also junior players.
The two rising sophomores are strong-armed pitcher Will Bucklesand infielder Anthony Donnan. Both Donnan and Buckles provided theBulldogs with sparks during the 2001 junior varsity regular seasonand hope to see increased playing time with the varsity squadthrough the summer.
