BA netters capture District 4-AA crown

The Brookhaven Academy Cougar boys and girls tennis teamscaptured the District 4-AA Tennis Tournament Wednesday at the CityCourts.

The Brookhaven boys finished first with 7 points, followed byColumbia Academy with 3 points, Bowling Green School with 2 pointsand Wilkinson County Christian Academy 1 1/2 points. The BrookhavenAcademy girls claimed first with 8 points, followed by WCCA with 21/2 points, Bowling Green with 2 points and Columbia with 1point.

Brookhaven Academy will host South State AA Wednesday, May 2,back at the City Courts. The first and second place finishers fromdistrict play will compete.

Capturing first plaice for the Cougars were Jerrod Rayborn inNo. 1 singles; Chad Smith and Jimmy Latham in No. 1 boys doublesand Jake Sessums and Collins Case in No. 2 boys doubles.

First-place finishers for the Lady Cougars were Hannah Estess inNo. 2 girls singles; Lindsey Phillips and Madeline Hall in No. 1girls doubles and Joey Sessums and Anna Moak in the No. 2 girlsdoubles. Anna King finished second in the No. 1 girls singles.

Brookhaven Academy’s mixed doubles duo of Abby Day and Andy Byrdclaimed first place.
