Day pitches 3-hitter in victory over BA Cougars

WOODVILLE – Shannon Day tossed a 3-hitter and the WilkinsonCounty Christian Academy Rams beat Brookhaven Academy’s Cougars 4-2Tuesday night in A District 4-AA contest. Day struck out 8 battersand walked 3.
The Cougars (3-5, 0-1) lost their first district test. The Ramsimproved 4-0 and 1-0.
The Rams scored 3 runs in the first inning. They got a 2-runsingle by Lance Cutrer.
The Cougars had taken a a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. AdamSmith hit a sacrifice fly and Paul Coker used a squeeze bunt.
“Day is a tough pitcher,” said Brookhaven Academy coach RonRushing. “We are struggling at the plate right now.”
Smith started on the mound for Brookhaven and Ben Sandiferpitched the last 3 frames. Smith gave up 3 hits and 4 runs, walking4, fanning 5 and hitting 3 batters.
Sandifer hurled 3 frames of relief. He gave up 1 hit, no runs,walked 4 and fanned 4.
Catcher Kelly Allred collected 3 hits for the Cougars.
Brookhaven Academy plays Oak Forest in its first home gameFriday, starting at 5 p.m., with the junior varsity game. Thevarsity game starts at 7.
Coach Rushing said that Saturday’s games with HattiesburgPresbyterian had been canceled.
