Johnson’s board work leads West Lincoln over Loyd Star

West Lincoln’s Carlos Johnson served as Chairman of the Boardson a rainy Tuesday night. The 6-foot-2 senior accounted for acareer-high 23 rebounds and scored 20 points in leading the Bearsto a 70-55 thumping of he host Loyd Star Hornets.
The victory game West Lincoln a sweep of the 3-game series thisseason as the Bears raised their record to 14-4. Loyd Star, slowedby ankle injuries to three starters, slipped to 7-9 in a majorrebuilding campaign.
West Lincoln coach Jason Case posts rebounds, assists and stealsstatistics on the dressing room wall after every game but alwaysexcludes the points and scoring average for obvious reasons. “Ikeep a rebound chart in the dressing room. Carlos and Luke (Lofton)are real competitive.”
Lofton was in early foul trouble last night and limited to 2points. Senior point guard Jamie Sisco pumped in 19 points, hitting11 of 14 free throw attempts. Senior forward Adam Rushing accountedfor 17 points and 7 rebounds. Kalis Fells added 6 steals.
“Our senior leadership was good tonight,” said Coach Case. “Theyrealize they have just eight games left,” in the regular season.”Any time you beat Loyd Star, it’s a happy time for us. This is abig rivalry.”
Case, a 1982 West Lincoln graduate, had watched Loyd Stardominate the series last season. Graduation took its toll on theHornets.
“Carlos really hurt us on the boards,” said Loyd Star coach Gene”Moochie” Britt. “He was coming from everywhere to getrebounds.”
Senior guard Brad Britt was the first Loyd Star casualty lastnight. After hitting a running jumper from the lane he reinjuredhis right ankle. Britt was forced to leave the game with his teamtrailing by 13 points, 54-41, and 7:41 left to play.
Loyd Star’s Tyrone Tyler and Jermaine Hunter are also slowed bytender ankles. “It’s hard to go when you have three bad ankles,”said Coach Britt.
The Hornets reduced their deficit to 7 points, 56-49, with 6:15left on the clock but West Lincoln responded. Rushing sank a pairof free throws. Johnson and Sisco hit short jumpers, giving theBears a 62-51 cushion.
Loyd Star got 14 points from freshman forward Jared Britt. BradBritt finished with 10 points. Junior guard Seth Britt netted 10points, grabbed 12 rebounds and made 5 steals. Junior forwardDemarcus Barnes added 8 rebounds and 3 assists.

The Loyd Star junior high boys remained unbeaten in 13games with a 49-19 win over West Lincoln, powered by JoshTownsend’s 15 points. Tyler Williford chipped in 8 points, JuranCollins 6 and Brooks Case 5.
West Lincoln got 6 points from Shane Lynch and 5 fromTyler Smith.
