West Lincoln wins two nail-biters at Enterprise

West Lincoln’s Hannah Roberts hit the game-winning three-pointerin overtime to give the visiting Lady Bears a tough 37-34 Division7-1A victory Friday night over the Enterprise Lady YellowJackets.

In the boys game, Jacket junior guard Rufus Allen nailed a fieldgoal to cut the deficit to two points, 57-55, with 6.9 seconds lefton the clock but Enterprise couldn’t get the ball back as WestLincoln held on for the important division win.

Enterprise hosts Wesson Tuesday night and visits North PikeThursday. West Lincoln hosts Bogue Chitto Tuesday night, Loyd StarThursday and visits North Pike Friday.

West Lincoln 37, Enterprise 34 (OT)

“I’m real proud of the way they played,” said West Lincoln girlscoach Jason Case after the win. The Lady Bears improved to 3-0 indivision play and are 5-7 on the season.

West Lincoln sophomore guard Dana King, who led with 17 points,scored a field goal with 12 seconds left in regulation to tie thegame at 34-all. The Lady Jackets turned the ball over with 3seconds left as West Lincoln held on to force the three-minuteovertime.

The game was close. West Lincoln led Enterprise 9-5 at the endof the first quarter but the Lady Jackets turned the game around inthe second quarter to take a two-point, 17-15 lead at the half.Going into the fourth quarter, Enterprise held a slim 26-25 edgeover West Lincoln.

Adding support to the West Lincoln girls win with nine pointswas Roberts. Hannah Payne led off the backboards with sevenrebounds. King had four assists. Holli Bass made four steals.

Leading the Enterprise girls with nine points, eight rebounds,five assists and four steals was junior forward Lacey Palomarez.Joyce Allen and Monica Leggett followed with seven points apiece.Also grabbing eight rebounds was Leggett. Allen made foursteals.

The Lady Jackets, coached by Billy Vaughn, are 6-3 on the seasonand 3-3 in division play.

West Lincoln 57, Enterprise 55

Like the girls contest, the boys game was nip-and-tuck from thestart to the end. West Lincoln and Enterprise were tied at 12-allin the first quarter. The Bears held a one-point, 29-28 advantageover the Jackets at halftime after a three-point field goal at thebuzzer by Allen.

Third-quarter play saw Enterprise take a 40-39 lead over WestLincoln going into the final frame.

“Enterprise has a scrappy bunch,” said Coach Case. “They give ustrouble. If we don’t learn to handle the pressure, our season willbe short.”

The Bears (9-2, 3-0) were directed to the win on center LukeLofton’s 20 points, 10 rebounds and four steals. Jamie Sisco netted14 points and had four assists. Carlos Johnson added support withnine points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Sisco led the perimeter attack with three 3-pointers, Sisco hadtwo 3-pointers.

Allen sparked Enterprise (4-4, 3-3) with 23 points. PierreHarthorne finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and four assists.Allen also hit three 3-pointers. Making five assists was KaryBrown.

Junior High Results

The Enterprise boys knocked off West Lincoln 36-30. Leading theJackets with 10 points each were Curtis Smith and RussellBrewer.

West Lincoln got 13 points from Tyler Smith and 11 from ShaneLynch.

In the girls game, Britnee Smith’s eight points led West Lincolnto a 38-10 win over Enterprise. Lauren Smith scored seven points,followed by Alisa Kennedy with six points.

Deanna White paced Enterprise with four points.
