Brookhvaen Acad. buries MRA

Brookhaven Academy pleased a large, partisan crowd Tuesdaynight, smashing Madison-Ridgeland Academy in a varsitydoubleheader. The Lady Cougars crushed the MRA Lady Patriots 45-28,led by Lindsey Phillips with 10 points.
The Cougars smashed MRA 76-41 in the varsity boys game, led byTurner Havard’s 18 points.
The Lady Cougars (6-0) held a 27-21 rebounding advantage as theyovercame 17 turnovers. Phillips had 9 rebounds and Lindsay Altmanhad 7. Katie Newman and Anna K. Gatlin each had 6 assists.
“(MRA) tried to press us but they couldn’t do it,” saidBrookhaven Academy coach Barry Gray. “Our half-court defense wasvery good. We held them to 11 points the first half.
“Amy Smith did a good job guarding Stacy Gary,” said Gray. “Shewas averaging about 17 points a game and she only scoredseven.”
Brookhaven Academy resumes play Friday night at ColumbiaAcademy. The seventh grade girls play at 3:30, followed by twojunior high games and two varsity games.
Monday night’s games at Silliman Institute have been canceled.Brookhaven Academy begins play in the Parklane Tournament nextTuesday.
The Cougars (3-0) were led on the backboards by Paul Coker with6 rebounds and Havard with 5 as they romped to a 40-25 halftimelead. Jake Sessums and Havard dished out 6 assists apiece. LayneMoreton had 5 assists.
“Our guys came out and played well,” said Brookhaven Academycoach Dale Watts. “Our full-court pressure is what hurt them. Wedid a good job against a bigger team.”
Seventh Grade Boys
Brookhaven Academy beat MRA 50-43 in a seventh grade game, ledby Jeremy Winborne’s 20 points. Seth Davis chipped in 10points.
