Enterprise, W. Lincoln home tonight; Loyd Star, Bo’ Chitto in division tests

Friday night, Brookhaven hosts McComb and Loyd Star entertainsSt. Andrew’s for homecoming/division games. Other local gamesinclude Bogue Chitto at Dexter for a big division test andBrookhaven Academy hosting Wilkinson Academy for homecoming.
In area football action Friday, Wesson visits Natchez Cathedral,North Pike hosts Hazlehurst and Franklin County travels to PortGibson.
Lawrence County has an open date this week.
Bogue Chitto is currently riding a three-game win streakand hopes to carry the momentum into Bulldog territory Friday nightwhere they face Dexter in an important Division 7-1A game. BogueChitto dumped division rival Salem 34-14 last Friday.
The Bobcats, coached by Carl Cole, lead the divisionwith a 2-0 record and are 4-4 on the season. Dexter is in secondplace in the division with a 1-0 record and a 5-3 overall worksheetafter clipping 3A Prentiss 35-34 in overtime lastFriday.
A win by Bogue Chitto would clinch the Bobcats a stateplayoff berth. The Bobcats have no remaining division games ontheir schedule. Dexter has two division games left, with Enterpriseon Oct. 27 and with Salem on Nov. 3.
“For us at this point, it is our chance to win thedistrict,” said Bogue Chitto head coach Carl Cole. “The best thingfor us to do is go down there and win it. Dexter has a lot of greatathletes. They run a lot of misdirection.
“Discipline will be a key on defense and patience is thekey on offense,” stated Cole. “We know they will be up for revengefrom last year (Bogue Chitto beat Dexter 40-6 last season). Itshould be a good football game.”
Cole praised the Bobcats’ offense offensive line fortheir contributions.
“Our offensive line has done a great job,” added Cole.They are Caleb McCaffery, left tackle; Lindsey Jackson, left guard;Ace Wallace, center; Casey McCaffery, right guard and ErnieJohnston, right tackle.
In last Friday’s win over Salem, Denard Ferguson poweredthe Bobcats with nine rushes for 64 yards and atouchdown.
Ace Wallace led the Bogue Chitto defense with eighttackles.
Loyd Star is coming off a big Division 6-2 win overrival Wesson and prepares for another tough division matchup atWilliam E. “Sambo” Smith Field against the St. Andrew’sSaints.
“St. Andrew’s is very strong offensively,” explainedLoyd Star head coach Anthony Hart. “They (St. Andrew’s) outscoredHinds AHS 48-36 last week. They do a lot of running and passing.They run the old Notre Dame box. They have five differentoffenses.” Hart said a victory was important.
“If we win Friday, it is a good chance we will be in theplayoffs,” added Hart.
The Hornets lead the division with a 3-0 record and are7-1 on the season. The Saints are tied in division play withRichland who is 2-0 in division action. Overall, the Rangers are7-1.
Loyd Star has one division game remaining on the road atRichland on Oct. 27. St. Andrew’s has two division games left. TheSaints are at Wesson on Oct. 27 and host Richland on Nov.3.
Offensively against Wesson, Loyd Star was led by DerrickJohnson’s 14 rushes for 101 yards. Demarcus Barnes followed with 94yards on 13 carries and a touchdown.
On defense, Daily Leader Defensive Player of theWeek Casey Warren and Cody Covington directed Loyd Star with 10tackles apiece.
Last season, Loyd Star whipped St. Andrew’s42-7.
Enterprise remains a threat in the Division7-1A race and hosts rival the Salem Wildcats tonight. Coach RickeyDeere’s Yellow Jackets are 5-2 on the season and hold third placein the division with a 1-1 worksheet.
Salem is tied 1-1 in the division with Enterpriseand is 1-6 overall.
Enterprise is coming off a 42-14 victory over theWest Lincoln Bears in a key division game lastFriday.
Powering the Yellow Jacket running attack with ninerushes for 130 yards was Shermaine Vaughn. Quarterback Justin Kyzarcompleted 6 of 10 passes for 84 yards.
Zack Smith sparked Enterprise with 13tackles.
Salem upset Enterprise 28-22 in last year’scontest.
West Lincoln faces the junior varsity teamfrom North Pike in a Thursday night encounter. The Bears, coachedby Don Holston, are 2-6 on the season and 0-3 in divisionplay.
In the loss to Enterprise, Kalis Fells paced theBears with 12 carries for 30 yards. Stacy Fells finished with 70yards on eight rushes.
On defense for the Bears, Cody Hall was the leaderwith nine tackles.
Wesson faces a tough road trip to Natchez toface the Cathedral Green Wave in a big Division 6-2A test. TheCobras, coached by Ronald Greer, stand at 0-2 in the division andis 3-5 on the season.
Wesson has two remaining division games left withSt. Andrew’s on Oct. 27 and Hinds AHS on Nov. 3.
In the loss to Loyd Star, Wesson was led by RussellRobinson’s 10 rushes for 25 yards. Marcus Corley picked up 48 yardson seven runs.
The Cobra defense got 15 stops from Billy RayMiller. Josh Ashley had 14 tackles.
In last year’s matchup, Wesson clobbered Cathedral56-3.
Hazlehurst visits North Pike Friday night ina Division 6-3A game. The Indians, coached by Willie Brown, fell to5-3 on the season and 1-3 in the division following last Friday’s27-18 defeat at the hands of the Franklin CountyBulldogs.
North Pike (1-5, 0-3) fell to Jefferson County 8-0last Friday.
