For the second time in three weeks tragedy has struck the area -three Bogue Chitto students killed in car accidents two weeks ago, then yesterday’s tragic airplane crash that claimed the lives oftwo former Brookhavenites.
Dr. Jimmy Barnett and his wife Missy grew up in Brookhaven. Hewas the oldest son of Rep. Jim Barnett, M.D. Missy was the daughterof former First Baptist Church pastor the late Dr. Bob Ramsey.
They were landing in Brookhaven to have lunch with his parentsbefore going on their way to Tupelo to visit her mother Jeri, thendrive to Oxford to see the Ole Miss-Auburn game, when suddenly theplane stalled and crashed short of the runway. Rep. Barnett and hisyoungest son watched in horror.
Jimmy was a well-respected orthopedic surgeon with the JewettOrthopedic Clinic in Winter Park, Fla. He was the team physicianfor the Orlando Magic professional basketball team. An accomplishedpilot, he learned to fly at the Brookhaven Municipal airport in the1960s.
They leave two daughters.
Our hearts and prayers go out to Barnett families.
