Brookhaven police department is investigating a possible theft ring targeting Lincoln County and surrounding areas.

BPD investigator Clint Earls said one to four black females have been going into local business and robbing employees. According to Earls, two or more of the women will distract employees and customers by asking questions about products while three or more other women go behind the counter and look for employee’s purses. The women open the purses, take the employees’ wallets, close the purses and leave.

Earl said before the victims realize their wallet is missing, the thieves have racked up charges at Walmart stores in Brookhaven, McComb, Hazlehurst and some areas in Louisiana. They buy high-end electronics and gift cards.

Earls said the women were caught on surveillance videos.
