SENATOBIA – A six run second inning would get the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves off to a hot start in their MACJC non-divisional matchup with Northwest on Wednesday. Unfortunately, the Rangers responded with their own offensive fireworks in an 11-9 Northwest win. In game two, Co-Lin took an early lead before succumbing to the Rangers, 15-5.

Northwest 11, Co-Lin 9

Freshman outfielder Choc Hubbard got Co-Lin started with a first inning solo home run. The following inning saw the Wolves (11-31, 7-15) send eleven batters to the plate and the Rangers (28-14, 14-8) use three different pitchers before the final out. The inning was highlighted by a three run RBI single from sophomore Mitch Little that contributed to a 7-0 lead for Co-Lin.

By the bottom of the third the Rangers had tied the game up, 7-7. The Wolves took the lead, this time in the top of the fourth, when they posted their final two runs of the game. The runs came on another RBI single by Little and a Northwest error that plated Hubbard.

Little, Adrian Brown, and Logan Smith all finished with two hits apiece for the Wolves. Little finished 2-for-4 with a double and four RBI’s. Wesley Watts, Ryan Young, and Colby Whitfield all hit a single apiece. The Wolves used four pitchers with reliever Matthew Evans taking the loss after going 1.2 innings and giving up four runs (one earned) on three hits. Co-Lin committed four errors.

Again, the Wolves would have no problem finding early offense as they scored two in the first and two more in the second. The problem was that the runs were also coming just as easy for the Rangers. Northwest scored three in the first, three in the second, one in the third, six in the fourth, and ended the game in the fifth inning with two more runs.

Adrian Brown went 3-for-3 with two RBI’s and a run scored to lead Co-Lin at the dish. Mitch Little went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Colby Whitefield hit a solo homerun for the Wolves. Ryan Young and Philip Lott both had a single apiece. Blake Talbot took the loss after surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits.

The Wolves conclude their season on Saturday, when they host Jones County for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. The sophomore players will be honored preceding the game. Watch live atwww.colinathletics.com or listen on WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.
