Panthers fall to Brandon

The Brookhaven Panthers suffered a disappointing 11-4 loss to the Brandon Bulldogs Monday night in baseball action at Moyer Field.

The Ole Brook Panthers celebrated Senior Night as their baseball seniors: Myles Tipton, Brett Spring, Landon McCullough and Reed Jones were recognized along with their families prior to the first pitch against Brandon.

Brookhaven (16-12, 6-3) will be in action Thursday as they prepare to host the first round of the 5A State Playoffs against Pascagoula in a battle of Panthers. Game time is at 6 p.m. Game Two will be at Pascagoula Friday at 7 p.m. Game Three (if necessary) returns to Moyer Field Saturday at 3 p.m.

Brandon 11, Brookhaven 4 

The Brandon Bulldogs quickly jumped on the Panthers to set the tone of the contest early as they secured a 9-0 lead in the first four innings of action.

Ole Brook answered in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings by pushing across four runs and cut down Brandon’s lead to 9-4, before the Bulldogs added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure the win.

Reed Jones suffered the setback on the mound for the Panthers with no strikeouts and no walks. Ole Brook used a five-man pitcher rotation Monday night. Scotty Bateman (1K, 00BB), Penn Wilson (2K, 1BB), Myles Tipton (2K, 0BB) and Michael Lambert (2K, 1BB) all saw action.

Brandon also threw a five-man rotation against Brookhaven as Will Harvey collects the win with four strikeouts and two walks.

Reed Jones was the top hitter at the plate for the Panthers with two singles. Blaine Moak, Penn Wilson, Scotty Bateman and Darrian Wilson hit safely.

Erick Hoard powered the Bulldogs with a home run and a single. Colton Cox and Ethan Williams contributed a pair of singles. Jackson Mitchell ripped a double. Hitting safely were Gage Teer, Kyle Bishop and Will McDowell.
