A Saturday night accident involving a truck and a motorcycle has resulted in the death of 60-year old Gerald D. Cox of Monticello.

The accident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on East Lincoln Road near Plez Drive said Sheriff Steve Rushing.

Cox was traveling south on East Lincoln Road when he struck a 2009 Chevrolet pickup traveling north driven by Randall G. Matherne of Raceland, La., Rushing said. Matherne was not injured.

Cox was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center and then airlifted to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson where he later died at around 11 p.m., according to Rushing.

Rushing said the cause of the wreck is still under investigation.

Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello is in charge of arrangements for Cox.
