Funeral services for Samuel R. Bates of Collins are 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at The New Chapel United Pentecostal Church in Collins with burial in New Chapel Cemetery. The Rev. Rodney Bankens, the Rev. Ken Hickman, the Rev. Lloyd Thompson, and the Rev. James F. Nations will officiate. Mr. George Hardin will offer the Eulogy. A musical service in honor of Mr. Bates will be performed by members of the New Chapel Church Praise Team and Band. Wade Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the New Chapel United Pentecostal Church.

Mr. Bates, 54, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Forrest General Hospital, Hattiesburg.

He was an engineer with Jarden Consumer Solutions. He was an active member of the New Chapel United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors are his wife of 35 years, Gale Bates of Collins; two daughters, Amanda Bates Burrell and husband, Steve, of Collins and Caryn Bates Deen and husband, Pat, of Sumrall; one step-brother, the Rev. James F. Nations and wife, Peggy, of Raymond, two step-sisters, Lee Morgan of Smithville, Texas and Faye Tillman and husband, J.T., of Jackson; two grandchildren, Laryn Davis and Dalton Burrell; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
